Get ready for an unforgettable journey through four of the animal kingdom’s most unexpected stars! You’ll meet creatures that walk, stomp, soak, and surprise. Guided by our expert keepers, you’ll learn fascinating facts, witness natural behaviours, and see these animals like never before.
STOP 1 :
The Seriema - Long-Legged Running Master
Start your journey in the South American savanna with the red-legged seriema - a bird that hunts like a raptor, runs like a roadrunner, and yelps like a yapping puppy.
What you will experience:
- Step in and listen up as we introduce you to the seriemas. Bounce rubber eggs or throw rubber snakes for them, feed them a tasty treat and get up close for a gentle stroke. You might see a stomp, a strike or even a display of natural, and rather brutal, hunting skills.
- Learn interesting and fun facts about their behaviour, habitat, and personality quirks from our expert keepers.
- Immerse yourself and listen out for their piercing call up close!
STOP 2 :
The Emu - Big Personality Powerhouse
Next, head to the Australian outback and meet the mighty emu! These towering, flightless birds may not fly, but they sure do impress with their speed, strength, and prehistoric vibe.
What you will experience:
- Slide in alongside the emus for a feathery cuddle, hand-feed them their favourite fruity treat and watch them strut, snack and interact.
- Study these sharp-eyed giants up close and learn about emu parenting, anatomy, and survival skills from our expert keepers.
- Listen out for their low, drumming vocalisations vibrating through the air!
STOP 3 :
The Capybara & The Mara – The Chilled and The Agile
Wrap up your adventure by slowing things down with the world’s largest rodent - the capybara. Capybaras resemble a super-large guinea pig, are peaceful, water-loving animals with strong social bonds and irresistibly mellow energy. And their leggy, long-eared, land-loving housemate, the Mara. A speedy rodent that looks like a cross between a rabbit and a small deer.
What you will experience:
- Sit in their enclosure, designed with their natural habitat in mind, and quietly observe the rodents going about their day. You may catch the capybaras playing in the pond or social grooming, and the maras stotting (bouncing on all fours).
- Entice the capybara over for a relaxing tickle and a chin scratch with their favourite treat, bamboo foliage. They may even stay for a soggy selfie.
- Learn fun facts about these endearing creatures from our expert keepers.
UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL
Remember to book early. For the well-being of our species and to ensure an optimal experience, bookings are limited to two daily sessions - 10.15am and 3.30pm, throughout the year. Each private session can accommodate from one to three people; you can escape and enjoy the journey on your own or share the experience with your friends and family.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Entrance: For those participating in the Step into the Wild, entrance is included.
- Experience times: 10.15am and 3.15pm, 7 days a week, throughout the year.
- Duration: 45 minutes
- Who can attend: Minimum age: 5 years old. Children under 10 years must be accompanied by a participating adult aged 16 years or over. Participants under the age of 16 years must be accompanied on site by an adult who holds a valid entrance ticket.
- Wheelchairs: This is NOT wheelchair accessible.
- What to wear: Clothes may get dirty or scuffed; for this reason, we advise you to wear old clothes.
- Footwear: Trainers, boots or wellies MUST be worn.
- Booking: Advance booking via email is required for this experience. Your voucher is valid for 12 months.

Most of our birds and animals used for experience sessions are hand-reared and enjoy human interaction; however, like us all, they have off days, and occasionally, they do not want to participate. For their well-being and yours, we cannot guarantee they will interact with participants.
STEP INTO THE WILD EXPERIENCE PRICE
For those participating in the Step into the Wild Experience:-
- Entry is included in the price.
- Each session is private and specifically for you and your friends and family.
- You may bring guests; however, they must purchase an entrance ticket and cannot take part in the experience.
- After your experience, you will have the entire day to explore all of our facilities, should you wish to do so.
