IMMERSIVE MINIATURE DONKEY GROOM AND WALK
Miniature donkeys, by nature, are friendly, full of personality and have a sweet temperament. Standing only 32-36 inches at the withers, they have large furry ears that gently swivel and twist towards every sound. This 45-minute, hands-on experience offers an opportunity to bond with these affectionate, woolly animals, renowned for promoting happiness and well-being.
What you will experience:
- Pair up with your small counterpart and begin by learning how to gently brush your Mediterranean friend’s soft coat with long, even strokes. Donkeys love to be groomed and will often stand relaxed with their eyes closed, indulging in the attention.
- After grooming your donkey, an assistant will help you to fit a small halter and lead rope, before you set off on a steady amble. Be aware, however, donkeys are partial to dropping their heads for a quick graze along the way.
- An expert guide will teach you how to lead your four-legged friend safely and provide you with fun facts while you meander through the picturesque fields. You may even hear a distinctive hee-haw or two, accompanied by rather strange facial expressions – guaranteed to make you laugh!
- At the end of your session, your donkey may fancy a special treat – perhaps a piece of carrot or a slice of apple. You’ll be shown how to correctly offer the treat to your donkey using your open palm. Donkeys are gentle and have soft lips; sometimes, it feels like they are tickling your hand when they take their treat.
- Rest assured, you will finish with a smile on your face, fun snaps to share with your friends and a newfound appreciation of these wonderful animals.

Remember to book early. For the well-being of our mini friends and to ensure an optimal experience, bookings are limited to two daily sessions – 9.30am and 12.30pm.

- Private Miniature Donkey Groom & Walk Experience: a private guided walk specifically for you and your friends and family. You can take up to four walkers and have fun sharing two donkeys.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Entrance: For those participating in the Miniature Donkey Groom & Walk Experience, entrance is included.
- Experience times: 9.30am and 12.30pm, 7 days a week, throughout the year.
- Duration: 45 minutes
- Who can attend: Minimum age: 5 years old. Children under 10 years must be accompanied by a participating adult aged 16 years or over. Participants under the age of 16 years must be accompanied on site by an adult who holds a valid entrance ticket.
- Wheelchairs: This is NOT wheelchair accessible.
- What to wear: Clothes may get dirty or scuffed; for this reason, we advise you to wear old clothes.
- Footwear: Trainers, boots or wellies MUST be worn.
- Booking: Advance booking via email is required for this experience. Your voucher is valid for 12 months.

Most of our birds and animals used for experience sessions are hand-reared and enjoy human interaction; however, like us all, they have off days, and occasionally, they do not want to participate. For their well-being and yours, we cannot guarantee they will interact with participants.

Personal is the essence of our Miniature Donkey Groom & Walk Experience, and with this in mind, there is a maximum of four participants per session. For those participating in the experience, entry is included in the price.
After your experience, you will have the rest of the day to explore Tropical Birdland. And, if you wish, you can indulge in a delicious Animal Experience afternoon tea at the Real Macaw Tea Rooms. This special offer is exclusive to Animal Experience bookings. Don’t forget to add it to your booking!
